Aim Trainer
An average of 350 to 500 ms per target is good in this 30-target aim trainer. Accuracy is hits divided by hits plus misses.
How to use
- Press Start. After a short pause the first round target appears.
- Click or tap the target as fast as you can. A new one appears in another spot each time. A click on the empty area counts as a miss.
- After 30 targets you see your average reaction time in ms, accuracy, fastest and median hit, and total time.
- Try again to lower your average. The best average is saved in your browser.
How it works
Reaction time for each target = the moment you hit it minus the moment it appeared, in ms. The average is the mean of all 30.
Accuracy = hits / (hits + misses), as a percentage. A miss is any press inside the area that is not on the target.
The first target appears half a second after you press Start, and the time of that pause is not counted in the reaction times.
Reading your numbers
The median is less affected by a single slow target than the average. If the two differ a lot, one or two bad targets pulled the average up.
| Average | Level |
|---|---|
| Over 700 ms | Beginner or a slow input device |
| 500 to 700 ms | Typical for first attempts |
| 350 to 500 ms | Good with practice |
| Under 350 ms | Very sharp aim and a fast setup |
Speed or accuracy
Rushing makes misses, and misses cost more time than they save. Aim for 90 percent accuracy or more first, then push the speed. Real aim in games is rewarded for hits, not for clicks.
What affects the score
- Mouse sensitivity and pointer acceleration. Keep the settings you use in your game.
- Screen refresh rate and display delay, which add a few ms before you can even see the target.
- Mouse surface, grip and posture. On a touch screen, finger size and the distance of a move matter.
- Warm-up: the first run is usually the slowest.
FAQ
Is this the same as a reaction time test?
Partly. Reaction time includes moving the pointer to a new place, so it is longer than a plain reaction test where nothing has to be aimed.
What counts as a miss?
Any press inside the playing area that is not on the target. The tool does not punish time, only accuracy.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the targets; they are 56 px wide for easy tapping. Touch results are not directly comparable with mouse results.
