Butterfly Click Test

Butterfly clicking uses two fingers on one button and often reaches 10 to 16 CPS. 120 clicks in 10 seconds is 12 CPS.

Two fingers on one button can strain the back of the hand. Press lightly, rest between runs and stop if you feel pain.

How to use

  1. Place your index and middle finger side by side over the main mouse button.
  2. Pick a length. 10 seconds is the usual one for butterfly clicking.
  3. Click the box once to start, then tap with the two fingers in turn, one down as the other lifts.
  4. Check the CPS, the rank and the chart. A flat chart means the fingers alternate evenly.

How it works

CPS = clicks / test length in seconds, rounded to two decimals. Every press of the main button counts, whichever finger made it.

The average gap in the result is the mean time between presses. Two fingers working evenly give a short, stable gap.

What butterfly clicking is

In butterfly clicking you use two fingers on the same button. While one finger presses, the other lifts, so the button is hit twice per cycle without a single finger having to move fast. The motion looks like a butterfly flapping, which gives the technique its name.

With practice many players reach 10 to 16 CPS, which is more than most can sustain with one finger.

How to learn it

  • Start slowly: left, right, left, right, with clean, even taps.
  • Keep both fingers relaxed and close to the button to cut travel.
  • Build speed only after the rhythm is even. Uneven taps show up as a spiky chart.
  • Use a mouse that is wide enough for two fingers on one button.

Safety: protect your wrist

Two fingers on one button strain the tendons in the back of the hand if you press hard or keep the hand tense. Press lightly, rest between runs, and stop if you feel pain, numbness or tingling. Do not drill for long stretches. Seek medical advice if discomfort stays.

FAQ

Is butterfly clicking allowed in games?

It uses a normal mouse and normal clicks, so most games and servers allow it. Rules differ, so check the rules of the game you play.

Can I use both left and right buttons?

Butterfly clicking in tests like this one uses two fingers on the same button, and only the main button counts. To measure the right button use the right click test.

Why is my chart spiky?

Spikes mean the two fingers are not taking equal turns. Slow down and even out the rhythm before adding speed.

Can a mouse limit my butterfly speed?

Yes. A switch with a heavy or long travel slows the second finger. Light, short-travel switches suit the technique.
