How to use

  1. Pick a test length: 15, 30 or 60 seconds.
  2. Click the box and start typing the passage. The timer starts with your first key.
  3. The test ends when time runs out or you finish the passage. Press Restart for the same text or New text for a fresh one.

How it works

A word is counted as 5 characters, including spaces and punctuation. WPM = (correct characters / 5) / minutes.

Raw WPM uses every character you typed, right or wrong. Accuracy = correct characters / typed characters x 100.

If you finish the passage early, your WPM is based on the time you actually took. Times under 1 second count as 1 second.

FAQ

What is a good typing speed?

It depends on what you type and why. The most useful comparison is with your own earlier results on the same test length, and accuracy matters as much as speed.

Why is a word 5 characters?

It is the usual convention for typing tests, so results stay comparable no matter whether the passage has long or short words.

Do mistakes lower my WPM?

Yes. Only correct characters count toward WPM, so each wrong character lowers it. Raw WPM shows your speed before mistakes are taken out.

Can I paste the text?

No. Pasting is blocked so the result reflects real typing.

Where is my best score stored?

In your browser on this device, for each test length. It is never sent anywhere and clearing site data removes it.
