Methodology
This page explains how the Nanocalcs team builds and checks the tools on Nanocalcs.
Formulas
Each calculation is written from the definition published by the relevant official body or standard, and every formula has unit tests. Where a tool uses a rule that is a matter of convention (for example a rounding rule or a calculation method for prayer times), the page says which one it uses.
Prayer times
Prayer time results are compared with the tables published by official authorities. The comparisons are kept as regression tests that run before every release, and results match the official tables within one minute.
- Indonesia: Kemenag (via the myquran.com mirror of its data)
- Saudi Arabia: Umm al-Qura (ummulqura.org.sa API)
- Turkey: Diyanet, 25 cities
- Malaysia: JAKIM, 18 zones
- Tunisia: INM, 10 governorates
Some local adjustments, such as altitude or seasonal corrections, were derived by fitting to the official tables because the authority does not document them, and they need to be re-fitted when new tables are published. Cities in countries where no machine-readable official table is available have not been compared this way, and we do not claim they were.
Tax and fee rates
Tax rates and thresholds come from the official source of each country, such as the IRS and the Social Security Administration for the United States, the national law information service (law.go.kr) for South Korea, and the European Commission's Your Europe table for VAT in the EU. The main rate tables record their source and the date they were last checked. An automated reminder asks us to review all rates every December and January, when most countries publish new figures. Results are estimates and are not tax or legal advice.
Translations
Pages in languages other than English are produced by machine translation and then cross-checked by AI. No language has yet been reviewed by a native speaker. Languages that are waiting for native review are excluded from search engines (they carry a noindex tag and are left out of the sitemap) until the review is done. The pages themselves stay reachable by direct link.
Advertising
There are no ads on the site today. If we add them, they will be clearly separated from the tool, never placed above a calculator or inside a result, and the privacy page will be updated first.
Corrections
If you find a wrong result, write to [email protected] with the page address, the values you entered and what you expected. See the contact page for what helps most. Each tool page also has a short "did this solve your problem?" question whose answers are counted without storing anything about you.
