Random Number Generator
Picking one whole number from 1 to 100 has 100 possible results, so each number has a chance of 1 in 100.
How to use
- Enter a minimum and a maximum. Both are included in the draw, and negative numbers are fine.
- Set how many numbers you want, from 1 to 1,000. Untick Allow duplicates if each number may appear only once, as in a lottery draw.
- Choose a sort order if you want the list ordered, then press Generate and copy the list.
How it works
Numbers come from your browser's cryptographic random generator. To avoid favoring small values, any draw that would skew the odds is discarded and redrawn, so every whole number in the range is equally likely.
With duplicates allowed, each number is drawn on its own, so the same value can appear more than once. With duplicates off, a number is never repeated: for a small range the whole range is shuffled and the first numbers are taken, and for a large range repeats are rejected and drawn again.
The range can hold up to 9,007,199,254,740,991 (2^53 minus 1) values. Without duplicates you cannot ask for more numbers than the range contains, for example 11 unique numbers from 1 to 10.
Ranges for common uses
| Use | Range and settings |
|---|---|
| Roll a six-sided die | 1 to 6, count 1 |
| Pick a number from 1 to 100 | 1 to 100, count 1 |
| Draw winners from 200 tickets | 1 to 200, no duplicates, count equal to the number of winners |
| Shuffle the order of 12 people | 1 to 12, no duplicates, count 12 |
FAQ
Are the numbers truly random?
They come from the cryptographic generator built into your browser, which is much harder to predict than a simple formula. It is suitable for games, raffles and sampling. It is not a certified source for regulated lotteries.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes. A range of 1 to 6 can return 1, 6 and everything between, like a six-sided die.
How do I draw lottery-style numbers?
Untick Allow duplicates, set the range, for example 1 to 49, and set the count, for example 6. Each number appears at most once. Choose Ascending to see the draw in order.
Can I generate decimals?
Not in this tool. It makes whole numbers only. To get a decimal, generate a whole number and divide it, for example 0 to 1000 divided by 1000.
Why does it say there are too many numbers?
With duplicates off, each number can be used once. If you ask for more numbers than the range contains, no valid list exists. Widen the range, lower the count or allow duplicates.
