VAT Calculator

Choose a country to load its official rate. Germany's standard VAT is 19%, so €100 net becomes €119.00 gross, and €119 gross contains €19.00 VAT. Rates change, so each country shows its source and an as-of date.

How to use

  1. Pick Add VAT if your price is before tax, or Remove VAT if the price already includes it.
  2. Choose the country. Its standard rate fills in and its reduced rates appear as buttons. You can also type any rate.
  3. Read the net price, the tax and the gross price. The source and as-of date for that country show under the result.

How it works

Add VAT: tax = net × rate ÷ 100, gross = net + tax.

Remove VAT: tax = gross × rate ÷ (100 + rate), net = gross − tax. At 20% the tax is one sixth of the gross price. Taking the rate off the gross price removes too much.

Indonesia: PPN is 12%, but for goods that are not luxury goods the tax base (DPP) is 11/12 of the price, so the tax works out to 11%. Rp1,000,000 gives Rp110,000 PPN (PMK 131 of 2024). Luxury goods subject to PPnBM pay the full 12%.

Malaysia has no VAT. SST has two separate taxes: sales tax on goods (10%, or 5% or a specific rate for listed goods) and service tax on taxable services (8%, or 6% for food and beverage, logistics, telecommunications and parking). They do not stack on the same item.

Canada: GST is 5% in every province. Five provinces combine it with their provincial tax into one HST (13% to 15%). Provinces that charge a separate PST or QST add it on top, and that is not included in the rate shown.

Rates are the headline national rates from each tax authority. Many countries have regional rates, exemptions and special schemes. This is an estimate, not tax advice.

VAT and GST rates by country

The first rate is the standard rate. Others are reduced, super-reduced or parking rates that apply only to listed goods and services.

FAQ

Which country has the highest VAT?

In this table, Hungary at 27%. Croatia, Denmark and Sweden charge 25%, Finland 25.5%. The EU minimum standard rate is 15%.

How do I remove VAT from a price?

Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate. At 19%, €119 ÷ 1.19 = €100 net, so the VAT is €19. Remove VAT mode does this for you.

Why is Australia not listed?

We list only rates we could check on the tax authority's own website. Use the custom rate box for any other country.

Why are Brazil and Iraq not listed?

Brazil has no single VAT rate: goods carry the state ICMS (which varies by state and product) plus federal IPI and PIS/COFINS, so one number would mislead. Iraq has no general VAT. Use the custom rate box if you know the rate for your case.

Is GST the same as VAT?

For a buyer, yes: both are a percentage added to the price and collected at each stage of the supply chain. The name differs by country.
