How to use

  1. Choose I charge to see the fee and payout, or I want to receive to find the amount to charge.
  2. Pick your Stripe account country and where the customer's card is from. Tick currency conversion or manual entry if they apply.
  3. Enter the amount. The fee split, effective rate and a bar of payout against fees are shown below.

How it works

Fee = amount × percentage rate + fixed fee. Stripe rounds the fee to the nearest cent. Payout = amount - fee.

To receive a target amount, charge = (target + fixed fee) / (1 - rate). The calculator then checks the cents so the payout is never below the target.

Example in the US: 100.00 × 2.9% = 2.90, plus 0.30 = 3.20 in fees, leaving 96.80.

FAQ

How much does Stripe take from a $100 payment?

With a US domestic card, 3.20 dollars: 2.9% of 100 is 2.90, plus the 30 cent fixed fee. You receive 96.80.

Does Stripe charge more for international cards?

Yes. In the US an extra 1.5% applies to cards issued abroad, and 1% more if currency conversion is needed. In the UK and EU the international card rate is 3.15% instead of 1.5%.

How do I pass the Stripe fee on to the customer?

Use I want to receive. Charging (amount + fixed fee) / (1 - rate) leaves you the full amount after fees. Check local rules first, since card surcharges are restricted in some places.

Is there an extra fee for manually entered cards?

In the US and Canada Stripe adds 0.5% when the card number is typed in by hand instead of entered by the customer. Tick Manually entered card to include it.

Why does my statement differ by a cent?

The fee is rounded to the nearest cent per transaction, and some cards fall into a different category than the one you picked. Check the card type in the payment details.
