Unit Price Calculator

A 500 g pack for 3.00 costs 0.60 per 100 g. A 1 kg pack for 5.20 costs 0.52 per 100 g, so the bigger pack is 13.3% cheaper per gram.

How to use

  1. Choose what you are comparing: weight, volume or count.
  2. For each product enter the price, the quantity on the label and its unit. Product C is optional.
  3. Pick the amount to compare per, such as 100 g or 1 litre. The cheapest product is shown with how much you save.

How it works

Unit price = price ÷ quantity, scaled to the amount you compare per. Every quantity is first converted to a base unit: grams for weight, millilitres for volume, single items for count.

That lets a 500 g pack be compared with a 2 lb pack. 1 lb = 453.59237 g, 1 oz = 28.349523125 g, 1 US fl oz = 29.5735295625 ml, 1 US gal = 3.785411784 L, 1 dozen = 12.

Saving is how much cheaper the best product is than the most expensive one, per unit. The percentage next to the others shows how much more they cost than the best.

FAQ

Is the bigger pack always the better deal?

Not always. Bulk is often cheaper per unit, but sometimes the small pack is on sale or a bigger pack costs more per unit. Compare the unit price, and consider whether you will use it all before it expires.

How do I compare packs with different units?

Pick a unit for each product from its own list. Grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds all convert to the same base, so you can mix them.

How do I compare multipacks?

Multiply the size by the number of units. Six 330 ml cans is a quantity of 1980 ml, so enter 1980 with ml or 1.98 with litres.

Can I compare weight with volume?

No. A kilogram and a litre only match for water, so compare like with like. Pick weight or volume for the whole set.
