How to use

  1. Enter the bill amount before tip.
  2. Tap a preset such as 15%, 18% or 20%, or type your own percentage.
  3. Set the number of people to split the total. Tick the round-up box if you want each person to pay a whole amount.

How it works

Tip = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ people.

Amounts are worked out in cents and rounded to the nearest cent. When a split does not divide evenly, the per-person figure is the rounded share.

With round-up on, each person's share is raised to the next whole unit and the tip and total are adjusted to match, so everyone pays the same round amount.

FAQ

How much should I tip?

Customs differ by country and service. In the United States 15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill is common for table service. In many other countries service is included or tips are small. Check local custom.

Should I tip on the bill before or after tax?

Many people tip on the pre-tax amount, others on the total. Enter whichever figure you prefer as the bill. The percentage is applied to exactly what you type.

How do I split the bill and tip between friends?

Put the number of people in the People box. The result shows what each person pays including the tip. For different orders per person, use the Bill split calculator.

What does round up do?

It raises each person's share to the next whole number, so paying in cash is easier. The extra goes to the tip.
