1 US cup is 236.6 mL, so 437 mL is 1.85 cups. Honey cups to grams: 1 cup of honey is about 336 g, and 1 cup of all-purpose flour is about 120 g.

A US cup is 236.5882365 mL and a metric cup is 250 mL. Weights for ingredients are approximate and depend on how the cup is filled.

How to use

  1. Pick a mode: volume to volume, volume to weight, or weight to volume.
  2. For weight conversions, choose the ingredient, because a cup of flour and a cup of honey weigh very different amounts.
  3. Enter the amount and the two units. The result updates as you type, with the other units of the same kind listed below it.

How it works

Volume conversions are exact. One US cup is 236.5882365 mL (one sixteenth of a US gallon), a US tablespoon is a sixteenth of a cup, a US teaspoon is a third of a tablespoon and a US fluid ounce is an eighth of a cup. A metric cup is 250 mL, about 5.7% more than a US cup.

Cups to grams uses a density: grams = cups × grams per US cup. The grams per cup come from the table on this page, and they are approximate. How you fill the cup (scooped, spooned, sifted, packed) changes the weight by several percent.

Weight conversions use exact factors: 1 oz = 28.349523125 g and 1 lb = 453.59237 g.

FAQ

Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?

No. A US cup is 236.588 mL and a metric cup used in Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere is 250 mL. Check which one a recipe means before converting.

Where do the grams per cup come from?

From the King Arthur Baking Ingredient Weight Chart. Butter, honey, rice, salt and cocoa are not listed there per cup, so they are scaled from the chart smaller measures (1/2 cup butter, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/2 cup rice, 1 tablespoon table salt and 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa). They are marked in the table.

Why is a cup of water 227 g here when it is closer to 236 g?

The King Arthur chart rounds a cup of water and milk to 8 ounces by weight (227 g). A US cup of water at room temperature weighs about 236 g. For recipes the difference is small, but weigh on a scale when accuracy matters.

Why do flour weights differ between sources?

Flour packs differently depending on how it is scooped and sifted, and sources use different handling. This tool uses 120 g per cup for all-purpose flour, the King Arthur figure.

Is a fluid ounce the same as an ounce of weight?

No. A fluid ounce measures volume (29.57 mL for US) and an ounce measures weight (28.35 g). They match only for water-like liquids and only roughly.
