Voice Recorder

The recorder uses your browser's MediaRecorder, which saves WebM with Opus on Chrome, Edge and Firefox and MP4 with AAC (.m4a) on Safari and iPhone. The audio stays on your device until you download it.

Press Record to start. Audio never leaves this page.

    How to use

    1. Press Record and allow microphone access. Recording starts at once, with a timer and a live waveform. Use Pause and Resume as needed.
    2. Press Stop when you are done. The microphone is released, so the browser's recording indicator turns off, and the take appears in the list below.
    3. Play the take back, then press Download to save the file. Delete removes it. Recordings are kept only in this page, so download what you want to keep before you close or reload it.

    How it works

The recorder uses the browser's MediaRecorder feature. It picks the first format your browser supports: WebM with Opus on Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and MP4 with AAC (saved as .m4a) on Safari and iPhone.

The audio is encoded in your browser and kept in memory as a file. When you press Download, the browser saves that file from memory. No part of it is sent to a server.

The waveform shows the loudness of the microphone signal every 40 milliseconds or so. The timer counts recording time only and does not run while paused.

    FAQ

    Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is created and kept in your browser. It disappears when you close or reload the page unless you download it.

What do the noise reduction option and the microphone list do?

Reduce background noise asks the browser to apply echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain, which helps speech but can dull music. Turn it off for a more natural sound. The list appears when you have more than one microphone.

Why is my file .webm or .m4a, and will it play elsewhere?

The format depends on the browser. WebM plays in current browsers and media players such as VLC. M4a (AAC) plays almost everywhere, including iPhone and most editors. Convert the file in an audio editor if you need MP3 or WAV.

    Is there a time limit?

The tool sets none, but long recordings use memory. For very long sessions, record in several parts and download each one.
