Circle Crop Image
Circle crop keeps the largest circle inside a square box and makes everything outside it transparent, so the file is saved as a PNG. Your photo never leaves your device.
How to use
- Drop an image onto the box, or press it to choose a file (up to 50 MB).
- Drag the circle to place it over the face or subject, and drag a handle to make it bigger or smaller. The small preview below shows the result.
- Pick an output size (or leave it on Same as selection) and press Crop and download.
How it works
The circle is the largest circle inside a square box, so the box is always kept square. The square is copied onto a new canvas and a circular clip is applied: every pixel farther than half the width from the center becomes fully transparent.
The file is saved as PNG, the format that keeps transparency. Corners are therefore see-through, and you can place the circle on any colored background. The edge is anti-aliased so it does not look jagged.
Nothing is sent to a server. The picture is read by your browser, and the round result exists only in this tab until you download it.
FAQ
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The crop is made on your device in this browser tab. There is no upload, no account and no copy kept anywhere else.
Why is the file a PNG and not a JPEG?
JPEG cannot store transparency, so the corners would turn into a solid color. PNG keeps them transparent, which is what you need for a round avatar.
What size should a profile picture be?
512 px is plenty for most sites, and 1024 px keeps it sharp on high-density screens. Choose a smaller value to get a smaller file.
Can I make the circle bigger than the picture?
No. The circle always stays inside the picture, so no empty area appears. If you need padding, add it in an image editor afterwards.
Will it work with a photo from my phone?
Yes. Phone photos are turned upright using their EXIF orientation first, so the circle lines up with what you see in your gallery.
