Hijri to Gregorian Date Converter
Tuesday, 20 October 2026 falls on 9 Jumada al-awwal 1448 AH in the Umm al-Qura calendar. Actual month starts follow moon sighting and can differ by a day.
How to use
- Pick a tab: Gregorian to Hijri, Hijri to Gregorian, or Hijri age.
- Enter the date. For a Hijri date choose the year, the month and the day. Keep Umm al-Qura selected for the Saudi official calendar, or switch to the tabular civil calendar.
- Read the converted date with its weekday. If the day does not exist in that Hijri month, the tool tells you.
How it works
Gregorian to Hijri uses the browser calendar data for Umm al-Qura (the official calendar of Saudi Arabia) or the tabular civil calendar. Hijri to Gregorian searches for the day whose Hijri date matches yours with a binary search, so both directions always agree.
The tabular civil calendar follows a fixed 30-year cycle with 354 or 355 days a year. Umm al-Qura is calculated from the moon, so it can differ from the table by one or two days.
Hijri age subtracts the birth date from the chosen date in the Hijri calendar: years, then months, then days, borrowing the length of the previous Hijri month when the days run short.
The tool covers Hijri years 1300 to 1500 (about 1882 to 2077). Gregorian dates are accepted from 1 January 1900 to 16 November 2077.
Umm al-Qura and moon sighting
Umm al-Qura is the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, worked out in advance from astronomical rules. It is the calendar this tool uses by default.
The start of a month in religious practice, such as Ramadan or Eid, depends on sighting the new moon and on the announcement of each country. That can fall one day before or after the calendar date shown here. Treat the result as the calendar date, not as a religious ruling.

Hijri age is larger than Gregorian age
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 days fewer than a Gregorian year. Over a lifetime the Hijri age grows about 3% faster, so a person who is 36 by the Gregorian calendar is often 37 in Hijri years.

FAQ
Which calendar does the converter use?
Umm al-Qura by default, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia. You can switch to the tabular civil calendar, which follows a fixed cycle and is often used in software.
Why can the date differ by a day from an announcement?
Umm al-Qura is calculated in advance, while the start of a religious month depends on sighting the new moon and on each country's announcement. The two can differ by one day.
Why does the tool say the day does not exist?
A Hijri month has 29 or 30 days. If you enter day 30 in a month that has 29 days in the chosen calendar, there is no such date.
How is the Hijri age worked out?
Both the birth date and the chosen date are converted to Hijri. The tool subtracts years, months and days, and borrows the length of the previous Hijri month when the days are negative.
Which dates are supported?
Hijri years 1300 to 1500, and Gregorian dates from 1 January 1900 to 16 November 2077.
