How it works

Each country uses its own rule. Pakistan: University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi, with Fajr and Isha at 18° below the horizon and Hanafi Asr (shadow twice the object's length). UAE: the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf) timetable, Fajr and Isha at 18.2°. Egypt: the Egyptian General Authority of Survey, Fajr at 19.5° and Isha at 17.5°. UK: the Moonsighting Committee Worldwide method, Fajr and Isha at 18° with a seasonal limit that depends on latitude, and the one-seventh-of-the-night rule from 55° north (Glasgow).

Dhuhr follows the sun's highest point, Maghrib is sunset, and times are rounded to the nearest minute. For the UK, Dhuhr is 5 minutes after the sun's highest point and Maghrib 3 minutes after sunset, as the method sets. For the UAE we add the small fixed offsets that the Awqaf table uses (Sunrise about 3½ minutes earlier, Dhuhr about 2½ and Maghrib about 3 minutes later).

We checked the results against published times: Express Tribune (Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, 10 dates from July 2025 to October 2026), the UAE Awqaf official table (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, 24 dates in 2026) and Egyptian newspapers that print the Survey Authority times (Cairo, Alexandria, 11 dates in 2026). Every time was within 1 minute. The UK has no single official timetable, so there is no official table to check against. For UK cities we only checked that our Moonsighting Committee calculation matches another implementation of the same method; your mosque's timetable can still differ by several minutes.

FAQ

Why can my local mosque differ by a minute or two?

Mosques often use their own reference point, a safety margin or their own rounding. A difference of 1 to 2 minutes is normal. For worship, follow the adhan of your local mosque.

Is Asr shown by the Hanafi or the Shafi rule?

For Pakistan the Hanafi time is shown, because that is what most Pakistani timetables print. It is roughly 30 to 70 minutes later than the Shafi time, depending on the season. UAE and Egypt cities use the Shafi (standard) Asr like their official tables.

Why are the London times different from my mosque?

The UK has no single official timetable. Many mosques follow the East London Mosque (London Unified) timetable or their own, where Fajr and Isha come from local observation of the sky. This page uses the Moonsighting Committee calculation instead. Fajr and Isha can differ from your mosque by a few minutes, and by more in winter and summer. Follow your mosque's timetable.

Standard or Hanafi Asr in the UK?

UK cities show the standard (Shafi) Asr by default. Many UK mosques with South Asian congregations use the Hanafi Asr, which is later. Use the Asr switch under today's times to change it. Your choice is saved on this device.

Is my location sent anywhere?

No. Your location is read only when you press the button, and all calculations run in your browser.

Who sets the start of Ramadan?

Each country's authority sets it by moon sighting, for example the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan. City pages show the next Ramadan by the Umm al-Qura calendar, so the official start can differ by a day.
