Countdown to Date
As of October 20, 2026, Christmas Day (December 25, 2026) is 66 calendar days away. Pick a date, and the countdown shows how many days, hours, minutes and seconds are left, updating every second. The date is read in your own time zone, and once it passes the same panel counts how long ago it was.
How to use
- Pick a date, and add a time if the moment matters. The default time is midnight at the start of that day. You can also type a name, such as "Summer trip".
- Or press a preset such as New Year or Christmas to jump to the next one.
- Read the headline for the number of days left and the live clock for the exact remaining time. The rows below show the calendar days, the weeks and days, and the weekday of the target date.
- Press Share link to copy a URL that opens the same countdown. Reset puts back the default.
How it works
The remaining time is the target moment minus the current time. The tool splits it into days of 24 hours, then hours, minutes and seconds. Seconds are rounded down, so the clock reaches zero exactly at the target time.
Calendar days are counted by date, not by hours. From the evening of Dec 24 to Dec 25 it is 1 calendar day even though only a few hours remain. That is the number used in the headline, and it is not affected by daylight saving changes.
A date without a time means 00:00 at the start of that day, in the time zone of your device. A shared link stores the date and time but not the time zone, so a friend in another zone sees the same wall-clock moment in their own zone.
Once the target has passed, the panel counts up the time since then. If the date is today, the headline says so while the clock keeps showing the time to or since the chosen time.

FAQ
Does the countdown keep running if I close the page?
The clock only runs while the page is open, but the target is exact, so when you come back it shows the right remaining time at once. Use Share link to save the date as a bookmark.
Which time zone does it use?
The time zone set on your device. If you are counting down to an event in another city, enter the time as it will be on your own clock, or convert it first.
How many days until Christmas?
Press the Christmas preset. It picks the next December 25, and the headline shows the number of calendar days left from today. On October 20, 2026 it was 66 days.
Why is the day count different from the hours divided by 24?
The headline counts calendar dates, while the clock splits the exact remaining time. For example, at 11 PM the day before, one calendar day remains but only 1 hour does.
Can I count down to a date far in the future?
Yes, any date from the year 1000 to 9999 works. Browsers may limit the range of the date picker, but you can type the date.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Your dates and names are processed in your browser. A shared link carries them in the address, so only share it with people you trust.
