AI Text Cleaner

Curly quotes and apostrophes (“ ” ‘ ’) are replaced with straight ones: the example “Hello” — it’s ‘fine’ has 5 of them. Zero-width and other hidden characters are removed, and an em dash can become a comma or a hyphen.

How to use

  1. Paste the AI-generated text. Nothing leaves your browser.
  2. Tick the cleanups you want. The em dash has three choices: keep, replace with a comma, or replace with a hyphen.
  3. Read how many changes each option made, then copy the cleaned text or send it to the Token Counter or Character Counter.

How it works

Hidden characters are found with the same code table as the Invisible Character Detector. Zero-width spaces and word joiners (U+200B, U+2060, U+FEFF, soft hyphen), direction marks and overrides (U+202A to U+202E, U+2066 to U+2069), Unicode tag characters and control characters are removed. Non-breaking, thin and ideographic spaces become a normal space. Zero-width joiners and variation selectors stay, because emoji and some scripts need them.

Curly single and double quotes (‘ ’ “ ”, and the low and prime forms) are replaced with ' and ". Other quotation styles such as 「」 and « » are left as they are.

The em dash (U+2014) and the horizontal bar are replaced by a comma and a space, or by a spaced hyphen. En dashes in ranges such as 10–20 stay.

Markdown cleanup removes **bold**, __bold__, *italic*, _italic_ and ~~strike~~ markers, heading # marks, bullet markers (- * + •), block quote > and horizontal rules, and keeps the text. Numbered lists, links and code are left alone. Asterisks inside words or between numbers (2*3*4) and snake_case names are not touched.

Repeated spaces and tabs inside a line become one space and trailing spaces are trimmed; indentation stays. Runs of blank lines become one blank line and blank lines at the start and end are removed. The change count adds up every replacement made.

FAQ

Does this remove AI watermarks?

It removes invisible characters, which some texts carry, but it is not a watermark remover. Statistical watermarks live in word choice and cannot be cleaned away this way, and the tool does not hide that a text was written by AI.

Why do AI texts contain hidden characters?

They are usually copy-paste leftovers from chat apps and web pages: zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces and direction marks. They are invisible but can break searches, code, URLs and comparisons.

Is the em dash a sign of AI text?

Many readers see it that way, but the dash itself is ordinary punctuation. The option is there if you prefer commas or hyphens.

Will it break code blocks?

Markdown cleanup works on plain lines and does not look for code fences, so leave it off for text with code. The hidden-character and whitespace options can change code too, so check before you paste it back.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
