How to use

  1. For one total, choose Single and enter the marks obtained and the total marks.
  2. For several subjects, choose Subject-wise, set the usual total per subject, and type one subject per line. Write 45/50 on a line when a subject has a different total.
  3. Add a target percentage if you want to know how many marks you need.
  4. Read the percentage, the total obtained and the total marks.

How it works

Percentage = marks obtained / total marks x 100. For 450 out of 500, 450 / 500 = 0.9, so 90%.

Subject-wise percentage is the sum of all marks obtained divided by the sum of all total marks, times 100. It is not the average of the individual percentages when the totals differ. For 45/50 and 78/100, the total is 123/150 = 82%, while the average of 90% and 78% is 84%.

Marks needed for a target = target % / 100 x total marks. To score 60% of 500 you need 300 marks.

The tool does not round the marks. The percentage is shown to two decimals, and boards may round differently, so check your own board rule.
