CGPA to Percentage Calculator

A CGPA of 8.2 is 77.9% by the CBSE formula (CGPA x 9.5). VTU's 2015 to 2018 scheme gives 74.5% ((CGPA - 0.75) x 10) and its 2022 scheme gives 82.0% (CGPA x 10). The right formula is the one your board or university uses.

How to use

  1. Choose the formula your board or university uses. CBSE is the default.
  2. Pick CGPA to percentage and type your CGPA on the 10-point scale, or pick Percentage to CGPA and type the percentage.
  3. For a formula that is not listed, choose Custom and enter the multiplier from your university rules.
  4. Read the result and the formula that produced it.

How it works

CBSE: percentage = CGPA x 9.5. The 9.5 factor comes from CBSE, which calls the result an indicative percentage. For example, 8.2 x 9.5 = 77.9%. The same factor applies to a single subject: grade point x 9.5.

VTU 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes: percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. VTU 2022 scheme: percentage = CGPA x 10. These come from VTU regulations. A CGPA of 8.20 gives 74.5% on the older schemes and 82.0% on the 2022 scheme.

Percentage to CGPA reverses the formula: CBSE CGPA = percentage / 9.5, VTU older schemes CGPA = percentage / 10 + 0.75, VTU 2022 CGPA = percentage / 10.

Only formulas with an official source are listed. Other universities set their own rules, so use Custom with the multiplier from your own marks card or regulations. This tool works on a 10-point CGPA only.

FAQ

How do I convert CGPA to percentage in CBSE?

Multiply the CGPA by 9.5. A CGPA of 9.2 is 9.2 x 9.5 = 87.4%. CBSE describes this as an indicative percentage, because the marksheet itself shows grades and grade points.

Is CGPA x 9.5 the same for every university?

No. 9.5 is the CBSE factor. Universities choose their own formulas, for example VTU uses (CGPA - 0.75) x 10 on its 2015 to 2018 schemes and CGPA x 10 on the 2022 scheme. Always check the rule printed on your marks card or in your university regulations.

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Divide the percentage by the multiplier. In CBSE, 85% / 9.5 = 8.95 CGPA. Pick Percentage to CGPA in the tool to do it for you.

Why is the highest CBSE percentage 95?

A CGPA of 10 times 9.5 gives 95. The factor is based on the average marks of students in the top grade band, so the formula never reaches 100%.

Does an employer or college accept this conversion?

It depends on them. Many accept the formula of your board or university, but some ask for the percentage printed by the institution. Ask them which one they want, and attach the official rule if needed.
